Train With Intention!
What does it mean? It means being present, focused, and understanding the purpose behind each exercise you do.
I often see people going through the motion while thinking about lunch or life problems, physically present but mentally elsewhere.
Training with intention means:
Being mindful, paying attention to the stretch, the tension, the squeeze, feeling your range of motion—how far can you stretch a muscle before you start compensating?
Being aware of your limitations. For example you tend to shrug while training. Your trainer might externally cue you a million times to drop your shoulders even take the time to show you what that means but if you don’t care to remember the next time you train your form will never improve.
Having goals. It’s having a personal goal for every workout outside of building more muscle, getting stronger or losing body fat etc. Each workout is an opportunity to practice, to improve, to get better.
Keep a mental log for yourself with exercises and muscles you want to improve to give them extra love the next time you train. Internalize the cues you are given by your trainer or yourself. Be present, take time to feel and envision your form. Place your mind in your body to build more muscle, better technique and train more efficiently.
